A Closer Look: 2025 Providence Recruit Jamier Jones
The talented small forward in the class of 2025 will visit Providence this week and then make an announcement on his college decision on May 12.
Prospect: Jamier Jones
Position/Playing Style: Attacking wing with freakish athleticism
Height: 6’6
High School: Oak Ridge (FL)
AAU Program: Florida Rebels
Class: 2025
Overview:
The Providence coaching staff will look to make a significant splash in the class of 2025 this week as the recruitment of Jamier Jones comes to a conclusion. The 6’6 small forward is one of the top prospects in the class of 2025, ranked #27 in his class by On3.com, #33 by 247 Sports, and #16 on ESPN, while Rivals slots him in at #25.
Jones is an outstanding athlete coming off of a strong year at one of the top high school teams in the country in Oak Ridge (Orlando, FL). The Pioneers reached the state championship game in the highest classification in Florida this past season, wrapping up the season as MaxPreps’ #7 team in America, with Jones leading them in scoring. Their state championship loss came in overtime to MaxPreps’ second ranked team nationally in Columbus, a program featuring five star prospects Cameron Boozer (#2 in 2025 per 247 Sports) and Cayden Boozer (#16 in 2025). Oak Ridge trailed by 11 at halftime against Columbus, before forcing overtime.
Oak Ridge played a challenging schedule this season, highlighted by games against Brewster Academy, Montverde Academy, DeMatha, and Christ the King. Jones led the Pioneers to the Iolani Classic title in Hawaii, leading them in scoring in victories over longtime powerhouses DeMatha (21 points on 9-15 shooting) and Christ the King (20 points on 8-13 shooting).
While the scouting report on Jones is that his outside shooting is still a work in progress, he shot 9-17 (52%) from three in the handful of games that Synergy Sports tracked of Oak Ridge this past season. From inside the arc he was 36-50 (72%). Of the 104 possessions on Synergy, 33 of them came in transition.
I pulled together highlights from his games against DeMatha, Christ the King, and three other contests. Jones’ athleticism simply jumps off the page, while he shot the ball well from outside against the Boozer twins in the state title game.
The Competition:
Jones is set to visit Providence this week (May 9 and 10) and then make his college decision on Mother’s Day. The Friars are thought to be well-positioned here, and the timing of his upcoming visit looks to support that notion.
Jones has also long been pursued by South Carolina, while LSU has made a strong push. His other finalists include Kansas, Houston, and Ohio State.
The Bottom Line:
Jones is an attacking downhill driver with the type of athleticism to make him a presence on both sides of the ball. On tape, he is a quick, explosive leaper who is consistently in attack mode. Jones’ basketball journey has taken him from Sarasota High School to IMG Academy, and this past year at Oak Ridge, where he shined against terrific competition. The 2025 recruiting class will prove to be significant for college programs, as next season will be the final year of players getting an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic. The 2025 portal figures to be a players’ market. The Friars will have some important voids to fill, and Jones is considered either a five-star prospect, or a borderline five-star player by all major national services. He will be one of just a few top 40 players in the class of 2025 to have committed to a college when he does so this weekend.
A commitment from Jones would be a great way to jumpstart Providence’s 2025 class. The Friars have aimed high in 2025, hosting a top ten player in the class in Bryson Tiller, while making a push for a trio of elite point guards in Mikel Brown Jr., Nigel James, and Jamier Jones’ high school and AAU teammate, Jalen Reece. PC has also made strong inroads with Massachusetts scoring wing Jaylen Harrell, as well as wings London Jemison of St. Thomas More in Connecticut and Canadian forward Efeosa Oliogu.
The class of 2025 is setting up to be a potentially strong haul for the Friars.
