Clifton Moore Shines in the A-10 Tournament

For those of you who began following this site once the regular season started, throughout last summer we had a series of videos that showed the games of Al Durham and Justin Minaya after they signed with Providence. The intent was to get Friar fans familiar with the play of the incoming transfers by showing video of their previous stints at Indiana and South Carolina.

I plan on doing the same throughout this spring and summer with PC’s latest signees.

Here’s the disclaimer I’ll add to each of these articles throughout the offseason: These videos are not meant to be purely highlights. They will certainly highlight what each of these players does well, but I will try to include every possession I watch to balance the excitement of a signing, while setting realistic expectations.

In other words, you’ll see the good, bad, and everything in-between.

There wasn’t much Clifton Moore didn’t do in the opening round of the 2022 Atlantic 10 Tournament. He was terrific in leading La Salle to a victory over St. Joe’s, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks.

Performances like this are why Providence’s staff must be high on the 6’10 grad transfer. Moore stretched the floor by making a pair of shots from long range (2-5), and an 18 footer off of screen and roll. He faced up, posted up, and was a presence at the rim defensively.

La Salle went on a 19-3 run in the first half to take a 12 point lead, before seeing St. Joseph’s chip away in the second. St. Joe’s actually cut La Salle’s lead to one with around six minutes to play before Moore scored and La Salle hit a 3-pointer to give themselves some breathing room.

With four blocks, Moore broke a single-season school record set by three-time All American Lionel Simmons (a lottery pick in 1990 who scored over 3,200 points in his college career — 4th most all-time).

The Explorers were playing perhaps their best basketball of the season at this point. The win over St. Joe’s marked their fourth in a row — a stretch that included a 62-60 upset of Dayton in which Moore had 16 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. They would go on to lose in the next round of the A-10 Tournament to St. Louis, however, which ended their season.

What continues to stand out about Moore is his skill set. He flashes one or two really great passes a game, is comfortable playing with his back to the basket, and puts the ball on the deck with ease. There are some shades of Emmitt Holt to his game.
