Daquan Davis Decommits from Providence
On Sunday morning news broke that Daquan Davis, a class of 2024 point guard who committed to Providence in June, has re-opened his recruitment.
An explosive scoring guard out of Baltimore, Davis was coming off of a terrific summer playing for Team Thrill on the Under Armour Circuit, after leaving eventual Nike EYBL champion Team Takeover in the spring.
Davis was set to return to St. Frances Academy (MD) this season, where he played in 2021-22, after leading St. John’s College High School to a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament championship last March. He scored a team-high 21 points in the title game, including a layup with three seconds to play to give St. John’s a 65-63 lead.
Seemingly everywhere Davis played, victories followed. When he suited up with Team Takeover in the summer of 2022, they won the Nike EYBL Peach Jam U16 title.
Davis did not return to St. Frances Academy this fall, however, instead choosing to attend the star-studded Overtime Elite (OTE) program. He shined at OTE’s Pro Day earlier this fall, thanks to his athleticism and shot-making ability. His profile only rose from there.
Davis’ RWE team has gone 5-0 in the preseason this fall, with Davis ranking second in OTE in scoring (15.0 ppg) and third in assists (4.4). He is shooting 41% inside the arc, 33% from deep, and turning the all over 1.6 times per game in 26.3 minute a night.
Davis’ decision leaves Providence with just one player committed in the class of 2024 — Massachusetts wing Ryan Mela of the Newman School in Boston.
