Friar Basketball Newsletter: Bryce Hopkins in the Fold, a Podcast with Clifton Moore, PC Announces the Commitment of Five Transfers, New Video of Noah Locke, Clifton Moore, All-time Friar Teams, More
After Bryce Hopkins announced his decision to transfer from Kentucky to Providence last week, 247 Sports ranked the Friars’ five man transfer class as the best in the country.
Hopkins was a top 40 player in the class of 2021, according to all of the major recruiting services. The Chicago native played sparingly after a back injury sidelined him early last season, and now he’s headed to Providence as part of an exciting young core. Read more about Hopkins and his potential impact here.
One of the more intriguing pieces that Providence added this offseason is La Salle graduate transfer Clifton Moore. Billy Ricci, of the Friar Podcast, and I caught up with him on a recent podcast in which we talked about his relationships with former teammates Al Durham and Ed Croswell, how blown away he was at the popularity of Ed Cooley around Providence, overcoming a dislocated ankle at La Salle, his game taking off last year, and his potential role at PC. The podcast is about 20 minutes and can be heard here.
We also have video of Moore from when La Salle took down St. Joe’s in last season’s Atlantic-10 Tournament. With his offensive versatility, there are some shades of Emmitt Holt in Moore’s game.
Looking to get more familiar with another of PC’s recent signees? Here is video of Noah Locke from the 2021 NCAA Tournament. Locke went for 17 points in Florida’s upset loss to Oral Roberts.
I really enjoyed this article from Craig Leighton in which he digs into a variety of topics, including the best players and coaches Providence has ever gone up against, as well the most outstanding Friar announcers, passers, “what could have beens”, and so much more. I particularly liked reading about when players like Julius Erving and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor at the time) played against Providence.
Finally, we also have you covered with all of the latest Friar happenings from over the past week, which includes Providence pushing toward 10,000 season ticket holders, Kevin McNamara’s podcast with Hopkins and South Carolina transfer Devin Carter, more on PC’s top spot in 247 Sports’ transfer ranking, Brycen Goodine heading to Fairfield, additional podcasts to check out, and more.
