Friar Basketball Newsletter: Ed Croswell breaks out, breaking down a huge week in Friartown, Noah Horchler's clutch shooting, videos, pressers, recruiting notes, and much more
What a week it was to be a Friar fan.
Two tough opponents, two amazing Dunkin Donuts Center crowds, a pair of exciting victories, and a couple of breakout performances from Ed Croswell.
Croswell was simply terrific last week, bringing energy to Providence when they most desperately needed it in wins over Texas Texas and Rhode Island. In this feature I come clean about the doubts I had about the former LaSalle transfer, delve into how he changed the course of both the Texas Tech and URI wins, and share the praise Ed Cooley showered Croswell with after Saturday’s win over URI.
If you missed anything from the URI game, we’ve got you covered. Friar fans can see a five-minute highlight reel from the Providence victory. We also have the full press conferences of Ed Cooley and Rhody head coach David Cox. Also included, is Billy Gilman’s national anthem from Saturday — an outstanding rendition that only boosted the energy of what was a terrific crowd.
Our weekly News and Notes column includes statistics, opinions, recruiting news, and more. For instance, did you know Croswell is one of only five players in the country to have a perfect shooting percentage on put-backs this season? Also, the Friars played zone in over 70% of their possessions against Texas Tech — a dramatic increase from earlier in the season. You can learn more about how often PC has gone to zone this year, read about Al Durham stepping up as PC’s lead guard, and much more in this article.
Craig Leighton returns this week with A Closer Look at local prep product Isaiah Miranda, an elite big man in the class of 2023 out of Pawtucket, RI. Miranda is being recruited by the likes of Kentucky due to his seven foot frame and potentially diverse skill set. Craig also shares his thoughts on the program in his latest Here and There in Friartown column.
Additionally, we preview the week ahead for Providence, and also include games of note for both Big East clubs and Friar recruits. 2022 point guard signee Jayden Pierre kicked off his season with 22 points in a victory last week. Pierre is back in action this week, while fellow 2022 commits Quante Berry and Christ Essandoko have a busy week ahead.
Lastly, Friar fans can relive the win over Texas Tech by watching the highlights, and seeing Ed Cooley’s postgame press conference.
