Friar Basketball Newsletter: Friar fan survey, final episode of the '04 podseries, previewing Al Durham, and a deep dive into early impressions, the Ed Cooley Coach's show, and more.
With the season opener a few weeks away, we want to hear from you on a variety of topics regarding Providence basketball and the Big East. We will share the survey results prior to the start of the season, and circle back with the fanbase at the end of the year with a season-ending survey.
The fourth, and final, episode of the Friar Basketball and Friar Podcast collaboration podcast on the 2003-04 Friars has been published. This has been a long time coming, as we began interviewing the members of this team back in June. In this episode we recap the season, with a look back at PC’s loss to Pacific in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and hear from players and staff on why the season ended in the manner it did. We also reflect back on what this season meant to each of these individuals and talk about their time at Providence College. We owe a huge thank you to Ryan Gomes, Donnie McGrath, Marcus Douthit, Sheiku Kabba, and Bob Walsh for not only taking the time to record with us, but for their candor. Each of them was terrific.
Indiana transfer Al Durham is going to be a critical piece for Providence this season due to his versatility on both sides of the ball. In this article, subscribers can read about Durham’s advanced statistics while at Indiana, his potential role at PC, and the impressions he has made on the staff to date.
We also have extended highlights from Durham’s time at Indiana. His versatility is on display in this six-minute reel.
Finally, in this week’s Rundown article I share takeaways from the Black and White scrimmage and the exhibition game versus Stonehill, as well as taking a look at the deep candidate pool for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar watchlist (which includes Nate Watson), and include notes from Ed Cooley’s first Coach’s Show. Among other topics, the article looks into Brycen Goodine’s aggressive approach to this preseason and quotes from the staff on the work Ed Croswell has put in since coming to Providence.
We hope you are enjoying this new format which we switched to in July. If so, please spread the word!
