Friar Basketball Newsletter: Providence in the Big East/Big 12 Battle, Hall of Fame Tip-off At Mohegan Sun… Getting to Know Scott Morozov... Clifton Moore Gets It Done on Both Ends vs. Richmond
The Providence Athletic Department made a pair of schedule announcements this week for the 2022-23 season. The Friars will return to Mohegan Sun in November as part of the Hall of Fame Tip-off. PC will open the weekend with a game against Jim Larranaga and Miami, and then will play either Maryland or St. Louis the following day.
This article takes a look back at PC’s history with Miami, St. Louis, and Maryland, as well as some exciting games that have taken place at Mohegan Sun in recent years.
Providence should also have a considerable road challenge next year when they head to TCU to take on a team with top 15 buzz this offseason. Ed Cooley’s group will head back to Texas (where they played TCU two seasons ago) as part of the Big East/Big 12 Battle.
Our News and Notes column (for subscribers) provides more on the matchup with TCU. The article also includes information on preferred walk-on Scott Morozov, a 6’6, 225 pound forward from Toronto. Morozov is an excellent student who moved to Toronto from Ukraine at the age of eight.
The latest video breaking down the game of an incoming transfer features Clifton Moore’s 17 point, three block performance at Richmond. This article includes a five-minute clip of the majority of Moore’s offensive and defensive possessions against the Spiders. Moore continues to look like a good addition to next year’s team. He showed a lot of offensive versatility in this one.
Finally, we also begin our “Season in Review” series that will take a week-by-week look back at the historic 2021-22 Providence Friars. This week’s article includes highlights from opening week wins over Fairfield and Sacred Heart, as well as memories from the season’s first week. Our hope is that this will be a fun look back, and provide memories of certain moments that may have been forgotten in all of the excitement of last year.
Please also be on the lookout for our conversation with AJ Reeves that will be featured on The Friar Podcast this week. AJ was generous with his time and reflected back on his entire tenure at PC. That pod will be released later this week and will be included in next week’s newsletter.
