Friar Basketball Newsletter: The Return of Our Fan Survey, Ranking the Top 40 Players in the Big East, Breaking Down Early Positive Results in the Exhibition Games, Devin Carter Highlights, and more
The Big East held its annual Media Day last week and Providence was picked to finish fifth in the conference by the league’s coaches. All things considered, that is a fair ranking considering that the Friars have only three returnees back from last season’s roster and that they lost five starters.
With that being said, there have been a lot of positives to come out of the two appearances the team has had in front of fans this fall. In this article, subscribers can read a deep dive which details how each of the newcomers has performed in both the Mal Brown Scrimmage, and in Thursday night’s win over American International College. Read why Rafael Castro has been the surprise of preseason play, what Jayden Pierre has in common with Kyron Cartwright, and how Bryce Hopkins may be even better than many have assumed.
We are excited to once again send out our Preseason Friar Fan Survey to get your opinion on a number of topics regarding Providence and the Big East Conference. We hope you take a few minutes to share your thoughts.
Subscribers can also read our ranking of the top 40 players in the Big East heading into the season. You can also read more from Media Day here.
Another newcomer to keep an eye on this fall is South Carolina transfer Devin Carter. Carter is relentless on both ends of the floor. He is constantly in attack mode offensively, and said on Media Day that is he looking forward to taking on the challenge of covering opponents’ best scorers this season. Carter will bring an athleticism and energy that will play well in Providence. See highlights from his freshman season at South Carolina here.
Finally, we are close to wrapping up our “Season in Review” series on the 2021-22 Friars. In the second-to-last article in this series we look back at a pair of wild wins at Butler and against Xavier, and the night Providence took home the Big East regular season title against Creighton.
We are just 16 days away from the start of the season! We appreciate your support of Friar Basketball and look forward to covering what should be another exciting year.
