Friar Basketball Newsletter: Top 100 Prospects Set Visits for Providence, Looking Back at the PC in the Legends Classic, Noah Horchler Lighting Up St. Peter’s, New Clifton Moore and Noah Locke Footage
This has the makings of a busy June in Friartown, as three very good prospects in the class of 2023 are scheduled to visit Providence. The most well-known to Friar fans is 6’9 small forward Taylor Bowen, a top 40 prep out of Brewster Academy who has been on PC’s campus frequently. He will take his official visit to Providence June 20th-21st. Bowen will also visit Florida State this month and a decision could come quickly.
Ed Cooley and company have loaded up on talented young guards over the past year, and will host a pair of promising point guards in June. Garwey Dual is a 6’5 point guard out of Indianapolis whose stock has taken off this spring. He is already a top 75 player according to 247 Sports, and other publications will likely give him the nod later this summer. Meanwhile, 6’4 lead guard Silas Demary Jr. from North Carolina recently visited St. John’s, and he is scheduled to see Providence at the end of the month. Demary Jr. is a proven winner in both high school and AAU play.
Subscribers can read more about each of these prospects in this week’s News and Notes column. The article also includes information on where incoming big man Clifton Moore shot well from last season, as well as other notes from around Friartown.
In our look back at the 2021-22 season, this week’s focus is on the Legends Classic and PC taking on what would eventually become a miracle Elite Eight team in St. Peter’s. This was quite an up-and-down week for Providence. They played very well for long stretches in a win over Northwestern, but then started losing players as the week progressed. AJ Reeves played just six minutes while battling the flu in an ugly loss to Virginia, while Brycen Goodine (coming off of a strong week in Newark) and Justin Minaya both missed the St. Peter’s game. The Friars also lost Jared Bynum early in the win over St. Peter’s. Providence got a near-perfect game from Noah Horchler, who missed just one field goal and finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists in a hard-fought win. The victory was also Ed Cooley’s 200th at Providence. This article includes all sorts of highlights and information from these games.
Also included this week is footage from Clifton Moore’s 19 point, 12 rebound effort against Richmond and Noah Locke’s career-high 27 point outing versus Texas A&M his freshman season. Locke scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half, while Moore helped La Salle put up a solid fight against the Spiders.
