Highlights: Noah (Horchler) vs. Noah (Locke) from November 2018

This video will feel different from the others posted this week of Devin Carter and Clifton Moore. In those reels, virtually every possession (both good and bad) were captured to give readers a true sense of the games of Providence’s newcomers.

I was really excited when I remembered that North Florida (with Noah Horchler) and Florida (with freshman Noah Locke) played back November 2018. This was a game I had previously seen, and shared footage from, after Horchler committed to Providence.

Horchler was a super-efficient 8-10 from the floor in this game en route to a 16 point, 10 rebound performance in a 98-66 Florida victory.

Locke was seven games into his college career at this point, starting his third game.

In just 18 minutes against North Florida, Locke made 7-11 from the field and 4-6 from distance. He set a new career high in scoring, topping the 11 points he scored against Stanford five days prior.

Three games later, Locke would match his career high of 18 after making 5-11 from three against Mercer. That game kicked off a stretch in which he scored in double figures in nine consecutive games.

I would love to show all of Horchler and Locke’s possessions from this game, but the video quality wasn’t what I’d want it to be in order to do so. Instead, the video above is about a two and a half minutes of highlights from this game.

The freshman Locked earned praise after this game from head coach Mike White, who said, “No one on our team plays any harder than Noah.”

Locke was part of a very good three-man recruiting class for the Gators — a trio that also included Andrew Nembhard and Keyontae Johnson.

Like Locke, Johnson received interest from Providence while in high school. After an outstanding start to his college career, Johnson collapsed on the court in December 2020. The SEC preseason player of the year in 2020 was in a medically-induced coma after collapsing and has not played basketball since.

Nembhard, whose younger brother is star freshman at Creighton, transferred to Gonzaga after his sophomore year at Florida.

Nine different Gators made a 3-pointer in this game — which tied an NCAA record.
