Highlights: Providence Blows Out Illinois in the 2003 Jimmy V Classic
The Friars got huge nights from Ryan Gomes, Rob Sanders, Donnie McGrath, and Marcus Douthit.
After trailing 12-0 early against #14 Illinois in the Jimmy V. Classic in Madison Square Garden, Providence came roaring back to win, 70-51, behind 24 points and 12 rebounds from Ryan Gomes, five second half 3-pointers by Donnie McGrath, and 15 points from Rob Sanders. Marcus Douthit dominated defensively with six blocks.
PC outscored the Illini, 46-21, in the second half. This was an Illinois team that included five future NBA players, including All Star Deron Williams. That core led Illinois to a 29-0 start the following season, but on this night they were no match for the Friars.
McGrath and Sanders capped this one with wild alley oop.
