Jared Bynum Enters This Season as a Big East Star, Quite a Contrast from a Year Ago
The numbers are mind-boggling in hindsight.
By virtually any measure, Providence point guard Jared Bynum was one of the best jump shooters in the country last season.
He shot 41% from 3-point range on the season, and 45% from distance in Big East play.
Bynum ranked in the 91st percentile in points per possession on jump shots, in the 95th percentile in catch and shoot, 97th on guarded jumpers, and in the 89th percentile when taking jump shots off the dribble.
He shot 39.8% on above-the-break threes and 57.1 from the corners.
His 15.6 points, 4.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 45% shooting from 3-point range in conference games were enough to earn him both 2nd Team All Big East Honors last season, as well as the league’s Sixth Man of the Year award.
Bynum resided on another planet in February, averaging 20.9 points, 4.4 assists, and shooting over 55% from distance in seven games.
The first of March brought a 19 point, 10 assist double double at Villanova.
The numbers alone would be remarkable, but when contrasted with Bynum’s first season in a Friar uniform, his 2021-22 campaign is all the more astounding.
