News and Notes: On Ed Cooley's Specific Approach to All Aspects of Saturday's Game Against Providence to Breaking Down Key Elements of the Friar Victory
Also included: Corey Floyd's critical defensive play, Rich Barron's important shot, how much the Hoyas leaned on a zone, an elite recruit leaves impressed, and much more.
The boos were deafening as Ed Cooley came out of the tunnel and onto the Amica Mutual Pavilion floor on Saturday — this time as a visitor after spending 12 years as the head coach of the Friars, and de facto face of college.
Friar fans had waited ten months to share their feelings on Cooley’s departure with the new head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas, and they weren’t holding back.
Part of the intrigue heading into this game came not in how Providence supporters would engage with Cooley, but how he would react to them. Cooley appeared to have a preordained plan in mind in regard to his approach of the pregame insanity, as well as his postgame press conference.
The Fox Sports cameras cut away quickly after Cooley came out of the locker room, and thus missed the rather odd course of action that came next. He walked the length of the floor toward the opposite baseline by the Friars’ bench, his eyes combing through the crowd for familiar and friendly faces amid the madness.
