News and Notes: Two talented visitors, The Big East in the NBA Draft post-realignment, the next Friar Podcast guest, and more
1. Providence welcomed Lawrence Academy/BABC scorer Alex Egbuonu to campus late last week. The 6’6, 210 pound wing really stood out on tape when I was watching Friar target Amir Jenkins earlier this spring, and I’ve been very intrigued since.
Egbuonu, ranked #82 in the class of 2026 by 247 Sports, is strong enough to punish smaller defenders in the post, really gets going downhill in transition, and has shot the ball well from deep for BABC on the Adidas Circuit.
He had a monster season for Lawrence Academy this past year on both ends of the floor, averaging 25.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.7 blocks per game.
The New Hampshire native’s stock has taken off over the past year, as he now holds offers across high major conferences.
2. We reported on Thursday that the Friars were also set to get a visit from a top center in the class of 2027, Theo Edema from Cushing Academy and Team New England.
Edema’s visit was rescheduled for this upcoming week, but this is another big-time talent — a seven-foot center ranked #54 in his class by 247 Sports.
