Part II: Observations from Watching Kim English and George Mason (late November through January)

If you’ve been following along since the spring, you have read our observations from watching nine different games Kim English had coached during his tenure at George Mason. As noted here previously, we really wanted to dig into as many Mason games as possible to get a full understanding of how the past two seasons unfolded, to see what an English-coached team truly looks like, and also to watch the three players who have transferred from George Mason to PC: Josh Oduro, Davonte “Ticket” Gaines, and Justyn Fernandez.

Today’s article will cover six more games since we last left off (with Mason falling to Belmont at the Paradise Jam last November).

At the tail end of this stretch of games, it became apparent why English and his staff are so high on Oduro. The graduate transfer big man suffered through injuries in the summer prior to the 2022-23 season, and while he was productive through two months, his game really started to take off in January. We’ll touch on those games shortly.

During this stretch of games, we saw some of Gaines (he went down with an injury in late December), while Fernandez really started to find his way into a bigger role by late January.

If you missed our coverage of the first month of the season and you are a subscriber to the site, you can read impressions and watch clips from a half dozen games.
