Podcast Series on the 2014 Big East Tournament Champions

Friar Basketball and the Friar Podcast have collaborated, once again, to highlight a memorable season in Providence basketball history.

This time we spoke with six members of the team that took home the Big East Tournament Championship in 2014 to learn more about how that team came together, their growing pains, the highs and lows of that season, and their magical run in Madison Square Garden.

Hear from Ed Cooley, Bryce Cotton, Kadeem Batts, LaDontae Henton, Carson Desrosiers, and Ted Bancroft as they break down all that went into building that team and reviving the Providence basketball brand.

Episode 1: The 13-14 Providence Friars Episode 1 of 4 | A New Big East

Summary: This is the first of four episodes (running about 75 minutes), and in it you’ll hear from Ed Cooley, Bryce Cotton, Kadeem Batts, LaDontae Henton, Carson Desrosiers, and Ted Bancroft on the formation of the roster, the transition from Keno Davis to Cooley and all that entailed, how a late run in the 2012-13 season built momentum, a roster rundown, and the feeling these individuals had heading into what would be a Big East Tournament title season.

This was also the first year of the “new” Big East, and the league’s partnership with Fox Sports, and we delve into what that meant for Providence’s program.

Episode 2: The 13-14 Providence Friars Episode 2 of 4 | An Injured Past

The second episode of our podcast on the 2013-14 Friars is available, and it’s a good one. In this episode you will hear from Ed Cooley, Bryce Cotton, Kadeem Batts, LaDontae Henton, Carson Desrosiers and Ted Bancroft on a number of topics, including:

  • An opening night matchup with Boston College that included Providence’s first game on Fox Sports 1 as part of the newly realigned Big East

  • The devastating season-ending injury to Kris Dunn, and how Dunn’s energy and enthusiasm lifted his teammates in the weeks and months that followed

  • Coming back from 16 points down to beat Vanderbilt in the Virgin Islands

  • Their approach to facing Kentucky at the Barclay Center, and how Friartown made its presence known in Brooklyn

  • A heated contest between Providence and URI at the Ryan Center in which Cooley and Dan Hurley got into it at center court

  • How the team bounced back from some heartbreaking losses in late December and early January to take home big wins at St. John’s and at home against Doug McDermott and Creighton
