Providence Adds a Big-time Scorer in Jason Edwards on a Wild Day
Friars also scored big with promising wing Stefan Vaaks on Friday morning and another critical addition in UCF transfer guard Jaylin Sellers Friday evening. What a day.
In one of the wildest, most remarkable recruiting days in Providence history, Kim English and his staff struck not once, not twice, but three times in the transfer portal on Friday.
They started by landing a proven scorer in Vanderbilt transfer guard Jason Edwards, followed up minutes later with the addition of a multi-skilled 6’6 guard from Estonia in Stefan Vaaks, then closed the night by adding 6’4 guard Jaylin Sellers from UCF. While the news of Sellers went public Friday night, he pledged to PC in the morning, per a source.
News of the first two commitments broke minutes apart and set Friar fans scurrying for their phones all morning, while the addition of Sellers (who many thought was headed to Illinois) completed a truly wild day.
Rather than write about Edwards, Sellers, and Vaaks in one article, I want to do a deep dive on all three this weekend — similar to what we did when Daquan Davis and Cole Hargrove committed earlier this week.
Let’s start with Edwards today and feature Vaaks and Sellers over the weekend.
We’ll have advanced numbers, shot charts, and not just highlights but 15 minutes of game film from Edwards’ games against the likes of Final Four clubs Florida and Auburn, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, and St. Mary’s in the NCAA Tournament.
Edwards is certainly a tremendous get for the Friars, as he is a former 1st Team All-AAC guard at North Texas and a 3rd Team All-SEC performer in an outstanding league this past season, but this article will take a look at all facets of his game.
