Providence Ranked #22 in Latest AP Poll
Providence was ranked for the second consecutive week by the Associated Press voters, this Monday coming in at #22 following an 0-1 week in which the Friars fell 73-67 at Creighton.
PC is one of four ranked teams in the Big East. Xavier (#8) jumped into the top ten following a win over Marquette on Sunday that improved their record to 15-3 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
Connecticut dropped from #6 to #15 after going 0-2 last week, with losses at Marquette and at home to St. John’s. The Huskies remain a metric darling thanks to non-conference wins against #4 Alabama and #12 Iowa State on neutral courts. Their NET Ranking is 7th, despite dropping four of their last five in Big East play. This is the first time UConn is outside of the top 10 since late November.
Next comes Marquette at #20 (the Friars’ next opponent) and Providence at #22. Creighton also received votes, and comes in at #35 this week.
This marks the fourth season since 2014-15 that the Friars have been ranked in the AP poll. PC got love from CBS’ Seth Davis and David Jones of The Patriot-News in Pennsylvania who had the Friars #14 in their polls.
Kevin McNamara of KevinMcSports and WPRO had Providence #16, while Dick Vitale and CBS’ Jon Rothstein ranked them #17. Thirteen voters did not have Providence ranked.
Houston finds itself atop the poll, followed by Kansas, Purdue, Alabama, and UCLA.
