Recapping an Incredible Friends of Friar Basketball Weekend
This past weekend the Friends of Friar Basketball held their 10th annual outing, which ran from Thursday through Saturday. This year’s event was unprecedented, as reunions for the 1987 Final Four team and the 1997 Elite Eight team were celebrated, and over 150 former players were in attendance.
In addition to the former players, past PC head coaches Rick Pitino, Rick Barnes (via Zoom after testing positive for Covid-19), Pete Gillen, Tim Welsh, and current head coach Ed Cooley were all in attendance.
Events included a golf outing, a Boston boat cruise, and several get-togethers. The highlight of the weekend was a panel discussion hosted by Doris Burke in which all the Friar head coaches, along with Providence great, and current Chicago Bulls head coach, Billy Donovan, participated.
This weekend had the greatest assemblage of former Friar players and head coaches in the history of the program.
Listed below are some of the recaps, interviews, and reactions from a Friar weekend to remember.
