Reflecting on the 2003-04 Podseries
“I was terrified of the matchup. The last thing I wanted to see was a mid-major team that our guys had never heard of that was good and well-coached. And that’s what Pacific was."
“I was terrified of the matchup. The last thing I wanted to see was a mid-major team that our guys had never heard of that was good and well-coached. And that’s what Pacific was… I don’t know how many Division 1 colleges there are that are out there that our guys had never heard of, but Pacific is probably on the list.”
— Bob Walsh on prepping for Pacific in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
These types of insights were exactly what Billy Ricci and I were hoping to hear from the staff and players in regard to the 2003-04 season. They consistently delivered with interesting, introspective thoughts when they reflected back on that season.
In the fourth episode of our podseries on the the 2003-04 Friars we learn more about PC’s mentality heading into the Pacific game, their thoughts as the upset was unfolding, and then they take a look back at the season more broadly — what it meant for the interviewees individually and for the program.
If you have not had an opportunity to listen to this series, all four episodes are now available wherever you typically access your podcasts. We think this is an interesting behind-the-scenes look into roster building, resiliency, the challenge of maintaining success when things start rolling, and what ultimately was a season filled with tremendous highs and painful lows.
You can find the series on Apple, Spotify, Soundcloud, and more.
