Now that Providence officially announced the additions of five players added via the transfer portal last week, the 2022-23 roster looks firmly in place. Graduating are five key contributors from last season, as well as three scholarship players who read the writing on the wall this spring and sought out greater opportunities elsewhere.
Over the next two weeks we’ll take a closer look at the new roster, beginning today with the big men and point guards.
The Bigs: The addition of La Salle graduate transfer Clifton Moore makes sense on so many levels. The 6’10, 240 pound Moore brings a different skill set than Providence’s lone returning big man with experience — the bruising Ed Croswell.
While Croswell is primarily an interior player who keeps possessions alive on the offensive glass and finishes well when rolling to the bucket, Moore is in the Emmitt Holt mold in that he can score with his back to the basket, passes well for his size, has the ability to put the ball on the deck, and is a threat as a rolling or pick-and-pop big man.
