Team Thrill, Daquan Davis take home the title at the Sportradar Showdown
Class of 2024 Providence commit Daquan Davis ended his grassroots season on a high, as Team Thrill took home the Sportradar Showdown title in Henderson, Nevada. His team went undefeated at an event loaded with high level talent (including a number of five star prospects) from the Adidas and Under Armour circuits.
The event included a pair of New England schools that readers of Friar Basketball are quite familiar with in Adidas-based Mass Rivals and Under Armour Association champion Middlesex Magic — both based out of Massachusetts. Davis and his team took home wins over both clubs. They defeated a Mass Rivals team headlined by Michigan State pledge Kur Teng (60-57) before setting their sights on the Middlesex Magic in the quarterfinals.
The Magic and Team Thrill split a pair of games on the Under Armour circuit this year, with Middlesex taking home the more critical win — a victory in the UAA semifinals behind the strong play of recent Boston College point guard commit Luka Toews and small forward Ryan Mela, who earned a scholarship offer from Kim English last week.
Friar Basketball watched both Team Thrill’s quarterfinal matchup against the Middlesex Magic, and Sunday’s title game against a Utah Prospects team that was fresh off of winning the Adidas title a week prior.
Here’s a breakdown:
Team Thrill vs. Middlesex Magic
Davis was productive, yet somewhat inefficient when I watched him in the title game of the NBA Top 100 Camp and in a couple of contests on the Under Armour circuit. He came over from Team Takeover on the Nike circuit in June, and it led to an interesting dynamic for Team Thrill, with Davis joining point guard Chance Mallory and another terrific point guard in Tyler Jackson. Jackson is a top 15 player in the class of 2025, while the 5’9 Mallory is a top 100 player in the class of 2024 who recently earned a scholarship offer from Virginia.
