“The Friar family will forever be my family… you guys will forever hold a big place in my heart.” -- Al Durham Reflects on His Impactful Season at Providence
Al Durham was the latest member of the 2021-22 Friars to join The Friar Podcast. In the roughy 40 minute conversation, Durham spoke of his seamless transition to PC, taking on a leadership role in his one year here, his relationship with Coach Cooley, and detailed everything from the past season from the win at Wisconsin through the NCAA Tournament.
Durham explained how last season “almost felt like a movie” and told host Billy Ricci, “It was a great experience. I can’t tell you how blessed I am to (have) come to Providence and just experience this. It was an eye opener for me… I just can’t say too many great things because it was just that great for me.”
He was effusive in his praise of Cooley and his staff (“I owe Coach Cooley, Coach Ivan and them the world”), explained how Friar fans took over the United Center in the Sweet 16 (“The crowd was amazing… it almost felt like The Dunk for a second when we went on our run”), and how the team wanted to send a message at the NCAA Tournament in Buffalo.
“That’s a hard group to come by,” Durham said of last year’s team. “Egoless, together, close-knit group. I felt like it did its purpose for Providence. You guys have reloaded, you guys have a great incoming class.”
