The National Prep School Invitational Returns to Rhode Island College Feb. 2-5, will feature recent Providence commit Kayvaun Mulready
For nearly a quarter century, the National Prep School Invitational (NPSI) has brought top high school talent from across the globe to Rhode Island. The stars that have played in this event (which used to be played on URI’s campus, but is now on PC’s doorstep at Rhode Island College) are too numerous to count. Over 100 NBA players have taken part in over the past 23 years, as have a high number of eventual Friars.
For Providence fans, this weekend will be highlighted by a Friday night matchup between Kayvaun Mulready and Worcester Academy and a very talented Bradford Christian Academy group led by class of 2024 stars Kur Teng and George Turkson.
Those two clubs met in last March’s NEPSAC AA championship game, in a thriller that Worcester won in the closing seconds. This will mark the first time that Mulready, a Providence commit in the class of 2024, has played in Rhode Island since his verbal in early January.
The game is scheduled for 6pm. Tickets are $10
Like always, the 2023 NPSI will have an international flair, including NBA Global Academy out of Australia. Rosters are tough to come by prior to the event, but that group could include 6’9 Barry Wang out of China.
Fans can also see Canadian power Orangeville Prep (they have brought Jamal Murray, Thon Maker, Lu Dort, Ignas Brazdekis, and Kalif Young to this event in years past), as well as teams from Sweden, Czech Republic, Latin America, and Africa.
American prep teams, both traditional New England powers and others from as far away as Texas, Georgia, and Florida, will also play throughout this four-day event.
