We are on the cusp of the 2022-23 season and if the results of our fan survey are any indicator, Friartown can best be described as having measured optimism heading into the year.
For instance, in response to the question “Providence was predicted to come in 5th in the Big East by the league’s coaches. How do you feel about that?” 48.9% of fans said that was a fair ranking, while 51.1% believe they will finish higher. Not one responder believes they will finish below fifth place this season.
Kentucky transfer Bryce Hopkins has certainly made an impression in the exhibition games. He received 72% of the vote to the question “Aside from Jared Bynum, who do you expect to have the biggest year for Providence in 2022-23?” Ed Croswell was the next closest with 11.9% of the vote.
In terms of the 2022 recruiting class (including both high school players and transfers), 76.6% of you gave the class an “A”, 22.6% voted it a “B”, while 0.8% had them at a “C.”
In response to the question “Of the freshmen, who do you think will be the biggest surprise on the 2022-23 Friars?” Rafael Castro’s big preseason led to him receiving 55.7% of the vote, followed by Jayden Pierre at 36.3%.
Ed Cooley received an “A” from 67.2% of the voters in terms of the job he has done at Providence over his tenure here. He was given a “B” by 32.1%, and two voters gave last season’s Naismith Coach of the Year a “C.”
