Tim Fuller headlines a trio of new coaching hires at Providence
Newly-hired Providence assistant coach Tim Fuller has certainly been around a lot of winners since his college basketball career began in 1996.
During his freshman season at Wake Forest he played alongside Tim Duncan on a team that won 24 games before falling to Stanford in the second round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. His 12-year stint as a college basketball assistant included coaching under Rick Pitino at Louisville, having the pleasure of coaching Chris Paul at Wake Forest, being part of a terrific run at Missouri (when Kim English played there), and a season under Ed Cooley during Cooley’s first season as a Division 1 head coach at Fairfield.
Fuller was one of three hires announced on Monday by Providence College, along with new Director of Basketball Operations T.J. Grams and strength and conditioning coach Chase Campbell. Grams has spent the past decade and a half in operations and academic advising roles at Duke, Virginia, and George Mason, while Campbell has worked at Butler, Xavier, and for the Orlando Magic.
Fuller was most recently at Vice President of Recruiting and Player Personnel at Overtime Elite (OTE), a position he took in April 2021. He played a big role in bringing in five star talent to OTE, with several players waiving a $100,000 salary in order to maintain their college eligibility.
“I look at it like we're the premiere developmental opportunity for 19 and under here in the United States… You come to OTE to build pro habits and develop a pro skill set. Look at All-NBA first team: You’ve got Luka [Dončić], Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and [Nikola] Jokić, but what about our kids here domestically? Somebody has to start to give them the Luka package. If that doesn’t start to happen, we’re gonna see less and less of our kids dominating at the ultimate level. At OTE that's what we're doing,” Fuller told Sports Illustrated last summer.
OTE’s roster currently includes likely 2023 lottery picks Ausar and Amen Thompson, and five star players like Robert Dillingham (class of 2023), Naasir Cunningham (2024), and Bryson Tiller (2025).
“Tim Fuller brings a wealth of experience with him to Providence College,” English said via Monday’s press release. “He has tremendous knowledge of the game and has worked at the highest level. Tim was the Associate Head Coach when I was a senior at Missouri, I'm excited to watch him cultivate relationships with our players as he did with us during my playing days. We are looking forward to having him join our staff.”
