Without Jared Bynum, Providence's Backcourt Steps Up in a Hard-Fought Victory over St. John's
On a day in which they were without starting point guard Jared Bynum, and hosting a St. John’s team that provides constant pressure on opposing guards, it was Providence’s backcourt trio of Noah Locke, Devin Carter, and Alyn Breed who filled that stat sheet and made critical plays in an 83-80 win over the Johnnies.
The Friars needed every last one of the 53 points that Locke, Carter, and Breed combined for, and thanks to their efforts PC is 6-0 in Big East play for the first time ever, while their nine-game winning streak is the longest since the program started 13-0 to kick off the 1988-89 season.
Locke has certainly found his footing in conference play. Following Saturday’s 5-8 effort from beyond the 3-point arc the graduate transfer is shooting 45% (14-31) from distance in Big East games.
After a quiet Midwest swing against DePaul and Butler (13 points in two games), Locke returned home firing this week, scoring a combined 37 points and shooting 8-14 from deep on this quick two-game home stand.
