Prospect: Curtis Williams

Position: Scoring Wing

Height: 6’6

High School: Brother Rice (MI)

AAU Program: The Family (MI)

Class: 2023

Overview:

Curtis Williams is a 6’6 small forward who is currently ranked 73rd nationally in the class of 2023 by 247 Sports, with a Composite national ranking of 65th. 247 ranks him as the 9th best small forward in the nation, and the number one player in the state of Michigan.

Williams has the look of a prototypical Ed Cooley-type player. He is a strong-bodied wing capable of knocking down threes either off the bounce or catch. With his handle and ability to create his own shot, Williams could potentially swing between the frontcourt and backcourt in college. At 205 pounds he already has a solid frame and should have no trouble taking his man to the basket and finishing at the rim. Bottom line is that Williams' number one asset is versatility, which fits right into Ed Cooley’s type of player.

Earlier this summer, Williams came out with a final list of schools that he was choosing from, and the Friars were not included at the time. Two weeks ago, his updated final four included newcomers Providence and Louisville — and no longer included Alabama, Notre Dame, Xavier, and Tennessee State. Clearly, the Friars gained some real momentum with Williams over the summer.

He had a very good summer playing for The Family on the EYBL circuit. A couple of highlights included a 20 point, four rebound effort against Expressions Elite in the Nike Peach Jam, and a 16 point, six rebound, and three assist game against Team CP3 earlier in the season. Williams was named to the U17 All Star list at the end of the Peach Jam.

You can read impressions from our Kevin Farrahar of Williams’ game against Expressions in July.
