Friar Basketball Newsletter: Devin Carter on The Friar Podcast, Providence cracks the top 25, Highlights, Breakdowns, News and Notes, and more
We were very excited to be joined by Devin Carter at 110 Grille following Providence’s OT victory over Butler on Saturday. In this interview with Bill Ricci, Carter talked about the offensive freedom he feels this season, the Friars’ strong defensive play, PC’s great preparation prior to the Butler game, and more.
Carter and 110 Grill have partnered to bring “meet and greets” with Friar fans following certain games this season. The Providence junior will be back at 110 Grill following the Xavier game on Jan. 13. It’s a great opportunity for fans to meet the guard whose game has taken off this season.
Following a 2-0 week, with wins over then #6 Marquette and Butler, PC improved to 11-2 on the season and 2-0 in Big East play. They are also ranked 25th in this week’s AP poll. In our news and notes column, subscribers can read about the last time PC was ranked in the AP top 25 for three consecutive seasons, how the Friar offense has taken a step forward in league play (leading the conference in scoring), the overall excellence of Carter this season, early returns for Big East Freshman of the Year, and more.
We also have highlights of Saturday’s win over Butler, as well as a breakdown of the Butler game, which includes how the George Mason transfers have been critical for PC, Carter as the Big East’s best player in week one, and more.
Readers can also read how PC’s stifling defense locked down Marquette, and watch highlights from that win.
We also recorded a podcast with Providence Athletic Director Steve Napolillo late last week. We talked about the first two months of Friar basketball under Kim English, the latest on PC’s NIL efforts, the national college basketball landscape, and more.
We would be remiss if we didn’t thank all of you who have supported our site and podcast since moving to Substack two years ago. We are inching toward some of the longer term goals I initially set for the site, and with each new follower of the newsletter, subscriber to the site, and interaction with readers both online and at the games, I find myself more and more motivated to bring you what we hope is a valued and unique resource. If you have enjoyed the content and know of any Friar fans, please continue to spread the word!
Happy holidays from me and Billy.
