Friar Basketball Newsletter: Providence Hosting Coaches Roundtable, AJ Reeves and David Duke Together Again in Vegas, and more
The Las Vegas Summer League wrapped up over the weekend, and Saturday night brought a treat for Friar fans as AJ Reeves and David Duke Jr. took to the floor against one another in the Boston Celtics/Brooklyn Nets game.
We connected with Reeves following the conclusion of Summer League play to hear more about his experience and what it was like to face Duke in a professional environment. “I love these moments because it is kind of surreal seeing both of us take steps towards achieving the goals and dreams we set out from that young age,” Reeves said afterwards.
You can see highlights from Saturday’s game here.
Providence College, in collaboration with the Friends of Friar Basketball, is hosting a once-in-a-lifetime type opportunity in July 28 when a panel that includes Ed Cooley, Rick Pitino, Billy Donovan, Rick Barnes, Pete Gillen, Tim Welsh, and hosted by Doris Burke, will be on campus to reflect on their careers and what PC meant to them. The afternoon will kick off with a reception offering fans an opportunity to meet Friar legends and members of the 1987 Final Four and 1997 Elite Eight teams, and will conclude with the roundtable. More information, including how to register, can be found here.
One of the more intriguing players on next year’s Friar team will be Bryce Hopkins, who transferred to Providence after spending a year at Kentucky. The combo forward has a lot of game, which was on display when he sparked a Wildcat come-from-behind victory over LSU last February.
This week will be a busy one for coaches across the country, as Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas are all hosting major events throughout the week.
Thanks for reading, and have a great week.
