Friar Basketball Newsletter: Providence's emphatic response to a down year, highlights from the non-conference games, a rundown of how each member of the roster has fared, recruiting notes, and more.
What more could Friar fans have asked for coming out of non-conference play? Providence is 10-1 headed into the Big East portion of the schedule, and they have gotten contributions from all parts of their nine-man rotation.
The past week featured wins over a good Vermont club, and then Central Connecticut State University over the weekend. AJ Reeves and Nate Watson were both terrific against the Catamounts with 24 points apiece. You can hear from Reeves, Watson and Ed Cooley in the postgame press conference here, and also watch highlights of the win.
We also have the Central Connecticut presser, as well as as a highlight package of every win during the non-conference schedule.
Featured articles this week include a column on how Providence has responded with a resounding answer to a down year a season ago. In this article we take a look back at how Ed Cooley almost seemed exhausted during his press conference after a season-ending loss to DePaul in the Big East Tournament last March, and juxtapose that with the energy and life that has been the trademark of this season to date. I hope this is an article you will check out.
Subscribers can read this rundown of the roster through eleven games. This article includes trends, some advanced numbers, and opinions on the nine players who have seen a majority of the minutes this season.
The News and Notes column includes impressions from the Zero Gravity Prep Classic from earlier this month, as well as notes on a recent Providence offer. It dives into Syracuse’s surprising struggles versus the Big East since departing for the ACC, the numbers behind the great job Cooley has done out of timeouts this year, Reeves’ numbers spiking since fighting off an illness in Newark, the Friars living at the free throw line, a breakout player at DePaul, and much more.
Finally, we take a look at some old faces in new places — including some of the chemistry issues taking place in Memphis.
Providence has a week off for exams and then it’s off to Hartford to take on UConn.
