Well written article. I think college sports will be rocked again when the football conferences leave the NCAA. Will there be March Madness at all? Having been a PC fan for over 50 years, however, I want to believe in the future of the Friars.
This is a gut punch to the Friar program that's already on the ropes. We were all hoping Hopkins would wind up at Illinois which made sense for him and for PC fans, kept him out of sight.
The NIL is destroying college sports and as the previous person wrote, the big programs will thrive and everyone else (PC included) will be hanging on with mediocre talent.
Bryce took PC for a huge financial ride these last two years. This year he made a straight up "business decision" to sit out, after proving he could play and play well vs BYU. Preserved another year and got himself a nice raise in the process. Sadly, these stories are going to become more and more common in this crazy era we are living in now. It is great we have Jones and Harrell coming in next year as freshman. If they are good, they will be snapped up by Pitino, Cooley, or the other big boys with the big cash bags. Welcome to the new world fellow Friar fans....the players are mercenaries. No loyalty can be expected.
Disappointing . Bryce shut it down in the middle of the season. Calling it understandable white washes the fact that he quit on his team. The squad and fans deserved better.
I used to think it wasn’t fair that coaches could switch teams without having to sit out a year like kids did. So at first, I was all for players having the same flexibility as coaches. Now I think I’m advocating that both coaches and kids should have to sit out a year.
Not sure if this makes sense to anybody.
Also I ’m not sure if Providence can ever be anything more than a mid major and a minor league for the big guys to poach away our best kids.
Anyway, Kevin thanks for keeping us updated so promptly and clearly.
I'm a PC season ticket holder, but I hope this works out for him. The way things are now is the way they are, and athletes (especially injury-prone ones) have to think about their own future and do what's best for it now. That said, I have my doubts about how he'll do under Pitino's coaching style. I guess we'll know soon enough.
Phenomenal article Kevin. The last line is very powerful and sums it up. Not a word wasted in that sentence. Perfection. Thank you.

Great article Kevin. Hang in there.
