I’m feeling a little betrayed by how it’s happening. Might not be fair but it’s the first thing I think of. I honestly thought he’d stay forever. I guess I’m Naive.
If he's going he's handled this badly. If he's staying he's handling it even worse. And I don't get the logic in going to Georgetown, a program in disarray. He owns this town--state, really--in a way he never could in DC. Why leave? Unless there's something in his personal life that makes him want a change of scene. Or maybe something else he's fleeing from.
The game was ruined for me given the rumors and program being in potential jeopardy. If Ed goes to Gtown that will be a giant FU to Providence. He has options and I would understand a big football school with no barriers to recruits and heavy NIL —- not inter-conf. He does need to decide quickly or we will miss out on replacement options. Hopefully he stays!
Legacy vs coach for the moment. All coaches have that choice. Cooley has started the legacy build. Will he continue, only he knows. It would be a shame if he doesn't finish what he has started.
How this has transpired is sad for the current team, but nothing escapes today's media coverage and click bait reporting.
PC has survived coaching changes before and will again if needed. Fans need to support the school and players, not just the coach chasing a bigger payday or one looking to build a legacy.
There has never been a coach move teams interconference in the 40+ history of the Conference and I dont see leadership letting it. Plus I dont see the Jesuits Order being ok with taking a coach from a Domican School. I know the Georgetown President is Secular, but the Jesuits still have alot to say there. But then again i am St. Vincent would be so overjoyed see Pitino leading young men at St John's, so i guess maybe they are all giving up there Ethics & Morals for a good basketball team & the $ it brings ! Just some thoughts!
This is the kind of reporting I miss. Great job, Kevin.
Agree; always appreciate Kev’s measured takes.
Great article. Appreciate all the work you put in. Don’t know what I’d do without this site
