The Friar Fan Preseason Survey is Back!
Share your thoughts on all things Providence and Big East basketball in our preseason fan survey.
One of my favorite things we do annually is send out a preseason survey to gauge the feelings of the Friar fanbase on a number of topics related to Providence and Big East basketball.
The 2023-24 season certainly has the makings of an emotional one in Friartown, which should make this season’s survey a lot of fun.
You can share your thoughts on how Providence will fare this season, which underclassmen you are most looking forward to seeing, your biggest concern heading into the season, your thoughts on Big East rivals, the returns of Ed Cooley and Rick Pitino, your favorite college basketball publications and so much more.
Please take a moment to complete this survey and we will share the results in a week or two (depending upon when the responses begin to taper off).

We preview what could be a big year for redshirt sophomore Corey Floyd Jr., who has spent the past two years biding his time, waiting for this opportunity. This article tracks Floyd Jr.’s path to this point of his career, including playing for the best AAU team in the country, how this will be the third head coach he plays for in three seasons of college basketball, being the first to announce he was staying at Providence to play for Kim English, and the upside his new coach sees in him.
We wrap up our look back at the past two seasons of George Mason basketball with impressions and highlights from their two games in the 2023 Atlantic-10 Tournament. Mason entered the tournament with the program’s highest conference tournament seed and longest winning streak since they joined the A-10 in 2013. Over the past six months we have watched and written about nearly 20 Mason games from the past two seasons, and we hope you’ve found the articles informative.
Just for the fun of it, here’s a look back at the best dunks and highlights from former Friar Jamine “Greedy” Peterson. This was certainly not the most fun era of PC basketball, but his dunks were pretty wild.
We also have a 10-minute highlight reel of Josh Oduro’s time at George Mason:
Finally, with the season under a month away, I would like to make a plug for anyone considering subscribing to our site. Since making the switch to Substack at the end of June 2021, we have published over 700 articles on Providence and Big East basketball.
We didn’t get to that number through content aggregation; instead you will find articles and interviews that really tell the “why,” not just the “what” about all things Friars. You can read more about our approach and our vision going forward here:
We appreciate all of you who have subscribed to our site. It really motivates us to continue to produce content year-round. We look forward to continuing to grow and evolve in the months and years ahead.
Kevin -- thanks for publishing Friar Basketball. It is a great newsletter. I am a Friar Fan since 1966.
I watched Jimmy Walker play in his final year at PC and watched Ernie D, play with Thomax Moore Prep against our Frosh team. Someone in the stands said to me: "don't worry he is coming to PC next year". My best and worst PC bball memory is watching Ernie D. and Marvin Barnes play in the Final Four game against Memphis State. My heart sank when Marvin went up for a rebound and came down and hurt his leg. He played with the injury but was not effective. WE WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY WON THE GAME AND ADVANCED TO THE FINAL GAME IN PC HISTORY. However it wan't meant to be. Would we have beaten Bill Walton coached by the Wizard of Westwood ? We will never know. Can Kim English be the first PC coach to bring us there? Hope springs eternal in the PC Fan's heart!
Well done! Thanks for feeding our Friar obsession!
